Who are we?
We are a lot like you. We have normal jobs and do normal things. A majority, but not all, of us have gone to Burning Man. (www.burningman.com)
We got together one day and decided to throw parties to benefit a kick-ass non-profit called Burners Without Borders. None of us make a cent off these parties.
We do it for three main reasons... It’s a lot of fun, we meet and make great friends along the way, and all the money goes to something we think is worthwhile.
What is BWB you ask?
(lifted from their website www.burnerswithoutborders.org )
Following the 2005 Burning Man event, several participants headed south into the Hurricane Katrina disaster area to help people rebuild their devastated communities. As the volunteer numbers grew, they focused their initial efforts on rebuilding a destroyed Vietnamese temple in Biloxi, Mississippi. After several months, that job done, they moved to another needy Mississippi community, Pearlington, to continue to work hard -- gifting their time -- to help those in need. Over the course of eight months, BWB volunteers gifted over $1 million dollars worth of reconstruction and debris removal to the residents of Mississippi. Since that time, BWB has emerged as a community led, grassroots group that addresses gaping needs where existing cultural and societal systems are failing.
What that means is that BWB pretty much kicks ass.
They do stuff like go into disaster areas and help people re-start life.
They’ve been evolving into an organization that also helps people improve their community. Through the parties that we and other like-minded groups in other cities have thrown, over 15 projects have been funded across the world!
You can get involved with us as deeply as you choose…
- come to our next party
- donate something cool to our raffle
- join our gang and take a StrikeTeam shift
- get involved in the leadership and planning of our parties
- give us all your money
While we would prefer all your money, coming to our next party is pretty cool too. See you there!
